Biography of Paul R. Mettler, PT, DPT
Dr. Mettler graduated summa cum lade
in 1981 from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks with a bachelor’s
degree in physical therapy. In the mid 1980s he began to specialize in the treatment
of TMJ/TMD and headaches, eventually developing a niche in evaluating and treating
this condition while working for a medical clinic in Champaign, IL. He saw an
unmet need for this service in Champaign-Urbana and opened an independent physical
therapy practice in 1990.
In the early 1990's, Mettler began
to develop an orthopedic sleeping pillow, trying different designs out on his
clients. After making improvements based on their feedback, he applied for a
U.S. patent and obtained it in 2000. He successfully completed the transitional
Doctor of Physical Therapy program from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine
and Science in 2006. He is the founder of a U.S. registered, servicemarked manual therapy
intervention coined MRT® which is used to free adhesions in the soft tissue.
Dr. Mettler is a long standing member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain Association,
and the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce. He is a Partner in Pinnacle Forum of America.
His practice has grown rapidly over
the past 15 years to include comprehensive fitness/wellness services serving
over 1800 members annually.
The Mettler Center, LLC, received two distinguishing awards in 2003: Best Independent Physical Therapy Practice by
Advance Newsmagazines and Champaign County Small Business of the Year.
